Latex paint remover is the ideal solvent for removing latex paint but it won t work on oil based paint.

Soaking a hardwood floor with a wet mop is a huge no no even if it s painted. You can use a plastic putty knife to remove the paint without damaging the surface of the wood floor. The paint should loosen allowing you to wipe it away with a dry rag. Wipe vigorously to dissolve tough paint stains.

If that doesn t take the paint off use a rag to blot denatured alcohol on the stain let it soak in for a few minutes then scrub it with a brush. Use a non abrasive scouring pad to scrub the area. Apply denatured alcohol to a white cloth. You can as well use a hammer to tap the putty knife in the case of hard paint spots.

Next apply a chemical paint. In the case of dried paint in the joints between two boards you can use a pull scraper to gently remove the paint from wood grain depression and the sides of the two boards. I wouldn t recommend it however. Denatured alcohol evaporates quickly.

Use a different part of the white cloth for each application to avoid transferring paint residue back onto the wood. Work the denatured alcohol into the stain using a rubbing motion. Using a clean cotton rag apply denatured alcohol to any remaining patches of latex paint. To remove paint on hardwood floors start by adding a drop of dish soap to a damp paper towel and rubbing the paint stain.

Reapply denatured alcohol to the white cloth often. The reason for this is three fold. Several solvents will remove oil based paint but mineral spirits is the strongest one you. Step 2 use a wet rag to remove any debris or solvents from the surface of your wooden floor.
